It's officially fall, which is very exciting. It's my favorite time of the year! (And my daughter's! She already got her Halloween costume!). Aside from the cooler temperatures which I hope arrive soon, I love that I get to break out the plaid. I have the coziest and cutest plaid shirts ever. It's a look I have been rocking since high school, but I have to admit plaid has never really made it into my home. Until now!! And I could not be more excited!
Plaid is a classic and never goes out of style. It has been around since the Scots and continues to adapt to modern fashions. So I was thrilled to add my own spin to plaid with the table setting I want to share with you today. There are so many cute plaid items at Target right now, I could barely make up my mind! Mad for plaid is right! I was in heaven. Let me show you how I styled my table-

Happy Fall! It's official and we are so excited even though it's still 95 degrees here in Dallas. If you are just starting to think about pumpkins and how you are going to decorate for Fall you need to see this post on Rain on a Tin Roof. Jenna has the cutest pumpkins all around the house and it might just be what you need to get inspired. That cute red lips print is from here. Aside from it being fall already I'm beyond excited that my little DIY Mongolian Lamb Stools (inspired by Preciously Me) made it to Today.com!!! WOW!!! The article is wonderful as they help you recreate Nate Berkus' nursery design for his daughter in a budget friendly way. Read the full article here. And a few more links for your weekend reading-
[ Eduardo Garza crystal box | Lips brass Box | Urchin (similar) | Horns (similar) | Obelisk (similar)]
You may remember my post on obelisks here. Well, as it happens many times I can become quite obsessive about things I blog about. And you can guess what happened after I discovered my love for obelisks. As I began my search for the perfect obelisk (I was searching for only one), I came across a magnificent instagram account- @PKLthecellar by Lance Jackson and Paige Minear. They sell beautiful things via instagram. You really need to follow along because it is fun to see what fun treasures they find.
We have a whole lot of great home tours for you today. The White Buffalo Styling Company has arranged a full week of home tours from interior design bloggers around the web. If you are coming from Kristin's Bliss at Home, welcome!! She is one of my favorites, plus her living room is spectacular.
I'm going to give you a little tour of my home today and then lead you on to the next tour. As everyone starts preparing for Fall it will be fun to see how everyone is changing things up for the colder days ahead. I actually leave my home pretty much the same no matter what time of year we are in. And it's still so hot here in Texas that I don't start getting into Fall mode until the end of October. Let's start my home tour, shall we?!
Happy Friday! We made it! I'm excited for this weekend because I'm setting up a blind date! I'm hosting a dinner at home with friends and including this lady and gent. Will they hit it off? Will sparks fly? Let's see! Let the wine flow, right? Ok, so I saw these faux bomber jackets on Instagram and nearly died....so COOL!! They are made by a daughter/mother duo...they produce by batches and put them in their shop every couple of weeks ! They don't have any up currently but will be on the lookout for them. Uhm, hello...I need one! Read more about them here.
[ glasses | Julia Contacessi print | jeweled cuff | stingray wrist wrap | red top | fringe bag | red flats | skirt ]
I'm so excited to announce that Cristina Auffant is the winner for Julia Contacessi's Print Giveaway!! Wohoo!!! Julia picked the winner and I was thrilled to learn that my good friend Cristina was the lucky one. What a coincidence! I loved sharing with all you readers Julia's beautiful work. Even if you didn't win Julia has generously extended a 15% discount to all Mimosa Lane readers with code ARTLOVEX15 (code expires 9/2115). View her prints here. Yeay!
I love fun surprises, and in a home a powder bathroom is the perfect place to have a little fun with your guests. This is the powder bathroom near our kitchen and pool area. I wanted to do something very simple and easy yet with high impact. I fell in love with this color, Funky Yellow SW#6913. And funky it is! My friend's mom, Ana Seyffert, who is an amazing interior designer had this color or a very similar one in her previous home. It is smashing in person, bright and happy, yet elegant.
I was waiting for the right artwork to hang in here. I wanted something with some blue and with water. If you are a regular then you know I adore Minted and have been using them for my Christmas cards for years (and I mean years!). I was one of the few lucky ones to know it even existed back then. It has been wonderful to see them grow and expand their offerings. Last year I got some of their prints for the One Room Challenge (see here) and I was really happy with their design and scale. And now, for the first time, I got a photograph from Minted's collection titled Seaside by Alexandra Nazari. I absolutely love it. And love having all the size options- from small to super large scale which is what is in vogue.
Minted's photography collection is pretty cool. I'm also totally obsessing over this pineapple print. Someone please get it! All these prints are from Minted's first photography-only competition hosted by the independent artist marketplace. "Through the Lens" was the 2nd largest challenge ever for Minted, with almost 5,000 submissions, 459 new pieces selected and 248 total artists represented. Now that is some tough competition. Here are a few more shots of my bathroom-
I have learned so much after all these years of interior design blogging. I have learned about decorating rules, furniture pieces, designers, artists, as well as awesome DIYs. I have been endlessly inspired by the beautiful interiors photographs I love collecting in my pinterest. So, the list of pieces I covet for my home just gets longer and longer. The more I learn and research, the more pieces I want to collect. If you read my blog regularly you know what I mean- a Lindsey Adelman pendant, Scalamandre pillows, malachite boxes and, most definitely, a Pedro Friedberg hand chair among many, many other things. They are original, fantastic and somewhat irreverent. I love how these chairs challenge the scale of a room and how its graceful fingers are so inviting to admire and attractive to the eye. They definitely stand for style rather than comfort. Let me show you more interior design pics of them so you too can become equally as obsessed as I am-
I love a bold and punchy entryway like this one (the rest of this NYC apartment decorated by Ashley Whittaker is pure perfection, see it here) and even more so if it has a chic umbrella stand. There is something very elegant about them, especially if they are filled with the old-school wood handled umbrellas. Of course, the Osborne and Little Maharani wallpaper plays a large role too. I find it quite magical.
Dying over this cube tile and gold accents. If I had a beach house in Menorca this is how my bathroom would look like. You can see the rest of this home, which is actually on London, here. It's Friday! Yay! Here are some fun like for you this weekend-
[ acrylic candleholders | rainbow fur | embellished jeans | statement ring | fringed clutch | fringed bootie | red cape dress]
The thing in this post I am most excited about is this rainbow fur colored scarf...isn't it so fun! It seems so cozy as well and perfect pop of color to the darker shorter days up ahead. I'm noticing a few trends pop-up for fall and just want to make sure you are all aware of them.
If you love art you are in for a real treat today as I'm highlighting the work of super talented abstract artist Julia Contacessi. Her works are serene, beautiful and ethereal. I have so many great photos of her work it was difficult to chose which ones to highlight for the post. Honestly, I don't think I could go wrong. Her works are not only beautiful in themselves but, as you will see, really make a space standout. And did I mention she is giving away one of her prints to one lucky Mimosa Lane reader?!! Who is feeling lucky, lucky? Let me tell you a bit more about her-
Rug maker to royalty and the stars, Luke Irwin, is now debuting a rug collection for us normal folk at Anthropologie. The Dublin-born artist was a student of master weavers in Kathmandu and has been influenced by Nepal's traditional weaving techniques. Prince William and Kate Middleton are owners of some of his rugs and since I admire Kate so much, this just seals the deal for me. In this collaboration with Anthropologie he created themes of Swedish geometrics and antiqued Indo-tibetan abstracts. His images are meant to be reminiscent of drying plaster.
Happy Friday! We are so excited for this Labor Day weekend. We have dinner parties, pool gatherings and hopefully some time for just lounging around. I still really want a womb chair. Here are some sales so you can take advantage-
[ fringed gloves | gold and black ice bucket | pinapple trinket dish | plaid shirt dress | Gypset books | ombre tassel earrings | pink dress | gold and black heels]
What about those fabulous long-sleeved fringed gloves???!! OMG #obsessed! Not sure how they would look on me but I have to say I'm very intrigued. This gold and black bucket has that classic vintage vibe and is only $ 55. I think any bar would benefit from an ice bucket that pretty. The pineapple trinket dish is an easy cute addition to any vignette around your house.
Loving this feminine and bright dining room created by Living Pink, a Spanish Interior Design Firm. You may remember this design group from another post I did here. Their designs are fun and interesting and always have that feminine feel. The dining table was designed by Patricia Bustos from Living Pink and, in my opinion, it steals the show alongside the Sputnik style pendant, which is delicate and whimsical and softens the space alongside the table's pink base. You might remember that I love folding screens and I'm in love with this lucite and gold one separating the dining room from the living room. It creates privacy while not covering up any light. Brilliant. Let's see more-
An essential for any home, in my opinion, is a blue and white ginger jar. Or better yet a whole collection of them, because they look even more stunning as a group. No matter how contemporary your home is these classic pieces always provide eye-catching beauty, especially if you use them as a vase and add some flowers to them. And I know the best place to get them, The Pink Pagoda. She has them in all shapes and sizes and for all different types of uses. You can even get a whole collection in this one-stop-shop. Let's get inspired-
